tricky goes bananas

i bought desmond one of those little mesh feeders.  he wasn't so sure what to do with it at first, but once it clicked, he went to town.  by the end of it all he was just smashing and rubbing bananas all over his highchair having a great old time.  i had a feeling it would get a bit messy, hence the bare chest. thank goodness a bath was next on the agenda.

the walking man

we bought desmond a walker about a week ago and he is really learning how to get around.  he hasn't quite learned how to back up or change directions, but he loves cruising around the house beating on everything in sight. and, as you can see in the video, he has also recently learned how to work his tongue.

the joy of laughter

we took this film of the d-man the other day.  his little chuckle just cracked me up.

new arrival

congratulations to my brother and his darling wife.  they just had a beautiful baby girl two days ago.  i am so sad that i haven't been able to see her in person, she is far away.  however,  i have been staring at her pictures nonstop and that will just have to do for now.  she is a perfect little bundle and i am totally in love with her already. anyway, i am extremely happy for them, they will be fantastic parents.

so entertaining

i was just cleaning out my inbox and came across this.  my sister sent it to me months ago but i think i laugh harder each time i watch it.  enjoy.

music

it's funny, sometimes life gets so intense you forget about the little things that make you happy. sometimes i forget how much i love music and what a great escape it is to just put on a pair of headphones and listen to one of your favorite songs really loud (not so good on the eardrums i'm sure, but it's a sacrifice i'm willing to make for a few minutes of pleasure).  i just listened to "a place called home" by pj harvey.  it was a fantastic experience.  next up "look up" by the stars, "harrowdown hill" by thom yorke, and  then a little nostalgia with "day dream" by the smashing pumpkins.

cranky

so i am basically venting.  desmond has really been on one today.  he won't nap, won't eat, i  finally took him on a walk and he screamed the entire time to the point that i had to carry him the last block while pushing the stroller.  we had to stop at CVS to get some diapers and he was just bawling.  i can't ever get over how people blatantly stare when a kid is crying.  it's like they are totally appalled.  love the kid, but he is killing me today.

aspiring musician

ever since desmond was tiny he has been fascinated by the guitar.  no matter what else is in the room, he can't take his eyes off of it.  he will play with it much longer than any of his toys and if anyone is playing it, he will just sit there and watch.  it must be in his blood.

fishing

these pictures are from a recent fishing trip that jeremy took with his dad in north georgia. i'd say he did pretty good for his first time.

teething?

i have been wondering if desmond has been teething for what seems like forever.  the drool, the rosey cheeks, the crankiness (although this could be blamed on a plethora of other things), the slight fever, chewing on EVERYTHING.  every morning i look in his mouth expecting to see something, but every morning.....nothing.  not even a swollen gum.

cookies

since desmond is starting to be a better sleeper i have time to do a few other things.  my mom and i made these cookies the other day, i thought they turned out pretty cute.  it was a great sugar cookie recipe so i thought i'd share it.

ingredients
1 cup white sugar
1 cup butter, softened
1 3oz package cream cheese, softened
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp almond extract
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 egg yolk
2 1/4 cups all purpose flour

directions
1. in a large bowl, combine everything but the flour.  mix until smooth.  add flour, stir until well blended.  chill for 8 hours or overnight.
2.  preheat oven to 375
3.  on a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to 1/8 inch thickness.  cut into desired shapes.  place one inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
4. bake for 7 to 10 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden brown.
* i frosted mine with lemon and lime frosting and topped them with zest.

sleep

sleep has been very hard to come by in the lemmon household since little desmond entered eight months ago.  however, we have finally made some progress in the last week that has him sleeping almost twelve hours at night without any assistance from me.  i am still skeptical of the change of behavior and feel that it could revert at anytime, but i am trying to stay optimistic at the same time.  after all, he is napping right now and has been asleep for over an hour!  unheard of just a week ago.
