heaven help brooke white

ok.  so i am going to admit that i watch american idol.  not even sure why, but i do.  i have to talk about something though.  brooke white.  oh the awkwardness.  she is pretty and has a decent voice but watching her sing, and even worse, dance, is painful.  a little less so when she is behind a piano or a guitar but then i get distracted by her slouching or concentrating so hard on not missing a chord it is uncomfortable too.  i really am not trying to be mean, but i just don't even know how she made it as far as she did.  i had forgotten about it until watching the finale. anyway, as i'm sure most of you are aware (even if you don't want to admit to it) the finale was last night.  all in all it was a bunch of really cheesy song and dance numbers with wash up stars.  george michael looked border line scary during his performance and it was strangely long and sad.  the one definite highlight was the "midnight train to georgia" performance by jack black, robert downey jr., and ben stiller (posted below).  truly funny.  i love jack black and ben stiller's facial expressions are amazing.  anyway, i'm not really surprised at the outcome.  david cook is more "rock star" and seems more marketable than david archaletta.  little archie can sing but he is still quite young.  so thats it.  until next year, when i'm sure i will watch it all over again.  

saturday at the park

it was a beautiful day here last saturday so we packed up the fam and walked over to piedmont park.  we stopped by jason's deli and got some lunch to go, i am much too lazy to make our own picnic.

well, the book closest to me, and the one i'm occasionally reading is "what to expect the first year." the 5th sentence on page 123 is,

"A short and low-pitched cry that rises and falls rhythmically and has a pleading quality to it (as in "please, please feed me!") usually means that the baby is in the market for a meal.

i always found the crying section of this book a crack up.  it's true, you do learn your babies cries but the explanations are pretty funny.

mothers day

this mothers day had great significance to me.  not only was it my first mothers day as a mother myself, it was also a day to reflect on the mothers in my life. my own mother is an amazing woman.  i have appreciated her more since having a child of my own.  she has been an awesome example and support to me and i hope to be as good as a mother as she has been.  i have also been blessed with a wonderful mother-in-law who is also a beautiful example of motherhood.  i have many women in my life both with and without children who have been extraordinary examples of what it means to be a woman and mother.  i am so grateful for my friends, my beautiful sisters and sister in law, my grandmother and many others. i feel so blessed to have you all in my life.  happy mothers day, i love you.

botanical gardens

 
 
this past weekend we went to the botanical gardens.  it is a great time of year to visit because a lot of things are in bloom and it isn't deathly hot and humid yet. they have a new exhibit called "sculpture in motion."   the contrast between the lush gardens and the metal sculptures was really cool, maybe my favorite exhibit there so far.
